Guil Araujo
Guil always had a mind for things sustainable. Through his passion for surfing and travelling, he realized that Ecotourism was a very effective way to preserve locales and peoples, beginning to research alternative ways for the use of natural resources and services in the Tourism industry.
With a Bachelor degree In Tourism Management (FACHA- Rio-Brazil) and a Bachelor with Honors in Ecotourism (Griffith University –Gold Coast – Australia), Guil specializes in sustainable management practices. He researched and written essays for the Tourism Industry of the Gold Coast – Environmental Management Performance in Gold Coast Tourist Accommodation and Green Advertising by Tourism Operators on Australia’s Gold Coast .
In 1997, Guil joined the Board of Directors of Surfrider Foundation Brazil, leading environmental awareness programs including a partnership with SPORTV – reaching over six million people daily. He designed and launched the first environmental management programme for an event of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) and has been responsible for overseeing a number of international events including, the Brazilian leg of the ASP World Championship Tour (Barra International 2000) and the International Surfing Association’s (ISA) World Amateur Championship in Maracaipe, Brazil, with more than 300 athletes from over 30 nations.
Since 2003 Guil has been involved in promoting green events on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Through Climate Wave, he is consolidating over 15 years of experience with events by engaging new sectors in the challenge of enhancing all aspects of their event’s sustainability, including reducing their carbon footprint, and the overall effects on the environment and society.
Guil is also the Queensland and Brazilian representative for the SEA, the Sustainable Event Alliance, an international coalition of sustainable events practitioners where industry and suppliers network and develop strategies.

Greg Howell
A long-time surfer and environmentalist, Greg was inspired to become and environmental campaigner after attending a No Nukes rally in Sydney in 1989. He joined the Surfrider Foundation in 1992 and held positions from national secretary to local branch president to executive director over a 10 year period and is now one of only a handful of honorary lifetime members.
Greg has initiated and managed numerous environmental projects ranging from local creek regeneration through to national and international campaigns and education programs. In 2002 he founded his own surf coaching business, while maintaining his environmental and social activism in a range of local and international campaigns. Greg still volunteers his time in a mentor role as Vice President for the local Gold Coast Tweed Branch of Surfrider Foundation.
In recognition of his significant contribution to the Gold Coast community, Greg was invited to participate on the committee of Enviro Industry the endorsed representative body of the environment industry on the Gold Coast. Internationally, on a recent trip to Bali, Greg was asked to take on an advisory role to the Indonesian Surfing Championship series in their quest for sustainable events.
Greg is a founding partner of Climate Wave Enterprises and has provided sustainable event management consultation and services for Kirra Surf Stock – surfing lifestyle festival, Gold Coast Beach Soccer Championships, Unity Festival, Eco Challenge Surf Competition and most recently Bleach – surfing the fringe festival.
Looking to the future Greg can see the invaluable contribution that reducing our impact on the planet sustainable event management can have. With the 2012 London “Sustainable” Olympic Games about to begin and the education this will raise Greg looks forward to participating in this industry. Greg’s sights are set on a sustainable future and he aims to have a significant impact on local events in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
